We live in a paradigm shift in the process of knowledge production in which many of the assumptions of modern science become questionable. In the case of Solidarity Economy and other non-capitalist economic forms, the knowledge mobilized by social scientists and, in particular by economists shows a great difficulty in capturing the richness and difference of these specific forms of production, exchange and consumption. This calls for new epistemological and methodological approaches that expand the scope of the analysis, be able to recognize the aspects invisible or overlooked by conventional wisdom, as is the case, for example, the subjectivity of the actors, modes of social and political participation , the rationality of alternative projects, or ways of mobilizing and using scarce resources. All this matter of understanding what is the Solidarity Economy and represents a challenge to researchers and science in general.
