The RILESS is a joint initiative of the UNESCO Chair - Labor and Solidarity Society, from Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos - UNISINOS (Brazil) and the Social Economy Mastering in Universidad Nacional de General Sarmiento - UNGS (Argentina). Also collaborate with the project the Faculdade Latino-Americana de CiênciasSociais - FLACSO (Ecuador) and Universidad Michoacana (Mexico).

The Network has an Organizer Committee, led by José Luis Coraggio (UNGS) and Luiz Inacio Gaiger (UNISINOS) and also composed by Alberto Acosta (FLACSO), Maria Butrón Arcelia Gonzalez (Universidad Michoacana) and Jean-Louis Laville (EMES European Research network, sister network). From your consultation committee also participate Anibal Quijano (Peru), Luis Razeto (Chile) and Paul Singer (Brazil).

The RILESS publishes the Journal Otra Economia, whose chief editor is Marilia Verissimo Veronese (UNISINOS). The site management of the Network and the Journal, since 2011, is performed by GrupoEcosol–EconomiaSolidária e Cooperativa (UNISINOS).

The Network aims to provide scientific basis and provide empirical support to strategic thinking as much as actions related to the development of alternative forms of economy that are emerging in the last two decades in Latin America.

The goal is the existence of a network of researchers working within a plural mark, contributing to the development of projects, exchanges and various forms of scientific cooperation, facilitating and promoting multidisciplinary works with the transcendent purpose of strengthening collective efforts by other economy, other societies and politics in Latin America. A network that links with self thought equivalent to networks in Europe and other continents, linking up with the states and collective actors who encourage such forms of society.

Many related issues have arisen and there is a growing literature production in Latin America. However, there is a lack of a shared strategy and of a paradigm sufficiently large to encompass the cultural and ideological diversity of these initiatives, helping to give them unity and therefore strength. Herein, the theorizing and empirical research can play a decisive role in the development of a praxis of solidarity economic, social, cultural and political.

In this sense it was decided to boost the formation of RILESS, cooperative, articulating knowledge, information and research capacities. And was thinking about doing it in Latin America, and not as a mere appendage of existing research networks in academic groupsfriends of the called North. It is vital from our roots and our historical and cultural matrix, as well as an understanding from our own terms. From the RILESS, we can dialogue with the European networks, Canadian, African or Asian, and contribute from our own history with the extraordinary cultural richness of Latin American continent.

Scholars and researchers who have the Social Solidarity Economy as their research topic, are welcome to RILESS. The Network membership is free and open to any nationality, simply being the author of at least one scientific work already completed and show interest the Contact available at this site or through email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Some specific goals of this site:
• Be a tool for setting up the initial constitution and subsequent consolidation of RILESS, extending its reach through the use of resources for meeting and virtual dialogue.
• Encourage and facilitate the exchange and cooperation in the systematic and rigorous study of the experiences of Economics and Social Solidarity - focused on the autonomous organization of work involved - as it has seen in Latin America and other continents.
• Contribute to the development and discussion of conceptual frameworks, methodologies and indicators to produce comparable records and check for new forms of socio-economic effectiveness and efficiency that present themselves, and foundation giving to higher education at all levels.
• Contribute to identify problematic issues of common interest, investigated systematically, building an agenda of priorities, developing shared projects and generating resources for its production and distribution.
• Putting knowledge and information capable of being used by social organizations and government promoters, trainers and the actors directly involved in these alternatives.
• Establish opportunities for debate, encounter and exchange, internally and with other similar networks, the same way as social action networks with local, national and international.
